Uptick in Bankruptcy Sales vs. Liquidation

It’s no longer true that when a retailer declares bankruptcy the result will be liquidation. Recently, we have seen a number of national retailers—Ritz Camera, Filene’s Basement, Eddie Bauer—who have been bought instead. While the buyers may be from different sectors (private equity firms, other retailers, private investors, etc.), they all understand the importance of analyzing and assessing the brands in order to determine their value and long-term viability.

RCS promotes Janelle Haniff to office manager

In June, RCS announced the promotion of Janelle Haniff to office manager. Haniff joined the firm as a paralegal in 2002 with more than three years of combined retail management and paralegal experience. As office manager, she will be responsible for overseeing the staff of administrative professionals and managing the everyday operations in the New York office.

In 1999, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies from John Jay College, where she was a member of the Nu Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
