The Dealmakers has been reporting on bankruptcies and closings for the past eight weeks. The ICSC predicted a record number of closings for 2008 and expects a new record for closings throughout 2009. While many companies offer disposition consulting to their retail clients, very few offer advice based on years of experience within the retail industry.
RCS Real Estate Advisors was founded in New York, N.Y. during 1981 by Ivan Friedman. Friedman, by that time, had over 25 years of experience as a retailer and had become a go-to person for other retailers to garner information and advice. As occupancy costs increased and the nature of lease negotiations changed during the recession of the late 80s, RCS grew. The company now has a nationwide reach and is led by a team of retail experts, including: Friedman, president and CEO; Eileen Mitchell, executive vice president, Spence Mehl and Mitchel Friedman, senior vice presidents, and Warren Kiersh, vice president. All but Mitchel Friedman joined the company with previous experience in retail.
